Safeguarding Policy

Aim of Policy

Desert Lions Sports is fully committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment for all learners. In accordance with Federal Law No. 3 of 2016 concerning child rights (Wadeema’s Law) and applicable UAE laws, we promote the welfare, safety, and protection of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. This Safeguarding Policy applies to all staff members, volunteers, contractors, and affiliated personnel engaged in any activities under Desert Lions Sports.

1. Legal Basis and Compliance

This policy aligns with the following legislation and standards:
– Federal Law No. 3 of 2016 (Wadeema’s Law) – Protection of child rights in the UAE
– UAE Penal Code and Cybercrime Law – Protection of personal and sensitive data
– Dubai Sports Council Regulations – Licensing and operation of sports academies
– FIFA & FA Safeguarding Guidelines – International best practices in sport settings

2. Staff Vetting and Training

– Mandatory background checks (including UAE Good Conduct Certificate)
– Annual safeguarding training
– Signed acknowledgment of this policy and related codes of conduct
– Breach of this policy results in suspension pending investigation

3. Parental Consent and Communication

– Written parental/legal guardian consent is required for:

Participation in training and events
Medical attention or first aid
Use of photographs or videos

– Communication with minors must be through approved platforms or parents

4. Reporting and Referral

– Suspicion of abuse must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
– DSL must escalate serious cases to UAE authorities (Police, MOI Child Protection Centre, Hotline 116111)
– Whistleblower confidentiality is respected per UAE law

5. Data Protection

– Personal data securely stored and accessible only to authorized staff
– Sharing of child data requires written parental consent
– Digital records encrypted and stored per internal protocol

6. Policy Review

This policy is reviewed annually or as required by law. Updates are communicated to all staff, who must re-sign the revised policy acknowledgment.
